“2013 Cleveland Air Show canceled due to federal sequestration budget cuts.”
Last year marked the first Labor Day weekend, in my memory, that the skies over Cleveland were silent.
No stunt airplanes. No fighter jets buzzing the Downtown landscape. No colleagues peering out rattling office windows to catch a glimpse of these aerial masters at work. The skies were empty. And the silence was quite deafening.
By all accounts, preparations were underway for the Cleveland National Air Show to return in 2014. And return it did.
After spending the day at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, we enjoyed the U.S. Navy Blue Angels from the plaza behind the museum. In a sonic game of peek-a-boo, the jets would disappear into the wild blue yonder, and then return from seemingly nowhere with an ear-splitting roar. The thrill was back! Here’s some of what we saw and heard:
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s both!
Great news, Cleveland! You have today to catch all of the excitement of the National Air Show. Schedule here.
